Resurrection Catholic Community Church today traces its history to Bishop Leo T.
Maher May 8,1970. Sending Father (now Monsignor) Joseph Finnerty to Escondido
to found the Church of the Resurrection. A few month later, on July 19th the first
Sunday Mass was celebrated at the Knights of Columbus Hall with approximately
200 people in attendance. Daily Mass was celebrated in the garage of the house
Father Finnerty rented on Joshua Street. In June, 1973, Masses began at the
multi-purpose building dedicated by Bishop Maher. The growing number of faithful in
this area were growing. "Father Finnerty guided the parish from 1970 through 1984
and was responsible for not only establishing the buildings but also building the
church community. Through the years the parish has been blessed with additional
pastors:- Father Lawrence Dolan succeeded Father Finnerty as pastor from 1984
through 1987, Monsignor Roger Lechner 1987-1992, and Father Charles Fuld, was
pastor from 1992-2001. Father Kenneth Del Priore is current pastor.
-- Pope John Paul II
(speech at Denver's Stapleton International Airport in 1993.)
"Only by instilling a high moral vision can
a society ensure that its young people are
given the possibility to mature as free and
intelligent human beings, endowed with a
robust sense of responsibility to the
common good, capable of working with
others to create a community and a nation
with a strong moral fiber."
